Ostiglia to Ferrara

Wednesday August 29, 2018, 40 miles (64 km) - Total so far: 5,854 miles

(9,422 km)

We decided to be kind to ourselves today and simply follow the Po cycleway (also Eurovelo 8) to Ferrara. We stopped in Ferrara nearly 7 weeks ago, so knew that the campsite was good (and cheap) and also that the town was lovely. And the route would be flat and easy to follow.

We were up at the actual crack of dawn to stay stealthy and get packed up. Not sure anyone was awake to see us....! We then rode a short way to the amusingly named Carbonara di Po where we found a nice bar serving excellent coffee and brioches (croissants) for our breakfast. The ride to Ferrara was then super easy - along the Po and then along a traffic free cycleway all the way to the city turning. We were so invigorated after our wild camp, we weren't even too bored!

Ferrara is as lovely as we'd remembered. We found cheap slices of pizza and excellent gelato for lunch, then headed over to the campsite. I don't think I actually appreciated how great it was when we were here before. It's SO QUIET!!!! Ferrara is a bit off the radar which is good for us, but a shame really because it is fab. Definitely come here if you're in the area!
