Borghetto to Ostiglia

Tuesday August 28, 2018, 55 miles (88 km) - Total so far: 5,815 miles

(9,358 km)

Our longest ride in ages and guess who had forgotten to clear the GPS memory.....a frustrating 'feature' of the Lezyne macro is that it doesn't bother telling you when it's full and doesn't give an error when you are recording.....it just doesn't actually record. Grr.

Anyway, it should have been an easy day's cycling but I found it a bit of a slog. It's all very well being back on the flat, but it's a lot less interesting!! It didn't help that Komoot sent us down a footpath in Mantova so we had to do a long backtrack. Things didn't improve when we checked out the Agricampeggio that we'd targeted......moral of the story, read the google reviews and when someone says 'the place is random with loads of young people hanging out, piles of rubbish and no actual staff' you should believe them and not bother going!!

So, we had our first wild camp of our European leg (and only the second so far on this whole trip!). It was about time really. Finding water is usually easy in Italy as town centres have either taps or fountains in squares / parks etc. So that was straightforward, and then we found a spot pretty easily too. There are lots of plantations of trees running alongside the cycleway. They're set down from the road too, which makes it fairly easy to tuck in and be hidden. We felt really anxious about being seen but it was completely fine of course, and actually a great spot!
