Trento to Lake Garda: 720m ascent (not sure I believe it!)
Sunday August 26, 2018, 41 miles (65 km) - Total so far: 5,723 miles
(9,211 km)
Today was largely downhill. Hooray!
We headed down the valley on the Adige cycle path once again. Lovely views up the hillsides - vineyards and villages. We turned off just after Rovereto, fearing hills and busy roads, but this was unfounded. The short climbs went almost unnoticed, and nearly the whole route to the head of the lake was on cycle path. Hooray for European bike-friendliness!
The first views of the lake are pretty spectacular. The hoards of tourists were a bit of a culture shock, but we consoled ourselves with excellent gelato. We cycled just over 20km along the Eastern side - again, the traffic wasn't too bad at all, the road is wide anyway, and there are good sections of cycle paths. Even the tunnels are fine - so many cyclists!
There are approximately one million campsites at Lake Garda, so Ed had spent some time trying to identify the sort we like....he did well! We're at Primavera which is small, quiet and clean. The lady spoke no English but good French, which made me happy, and is giving us a discount for being on bikes. There's a tunnel to the lakeside, and a supermarket a couple of hundred metres away (that was even open on Sunday). The downside is that we are practically ON the road, which is far from peaceful, but I can't see that any campsite around here would be different. The best news - THE TENT IS DRY!!!
