Bellamonte to Trento: 712m ascent

Friday August 24, 2018, 51 miles (83 km) - Total so far: 5,683 miles

(9,146 km)

We took a day off at Valle Verde campground....partially for me to work o a job application, sad times!

The route started with a bit of a komoot special. We headed down the valley on bike paths for about 10km, then knew the route turned off and actually avoided a bigger hill by doing so. However.....the 'smaller' hill was pretty much straight up a dirt track. It nearly broke us! After that, we still had a bit of climbing to do, which was steep at the beginning, on small roads through villages. We then joined another bike path and climbed again, but it wasn't bad at all. The bike path was lovely too, and we found a good spot to have our lunch and dry out the tent.

For the descent into the Trento valley, we ignored the gravel bike path (although actually, it looked ok) and stuck with the roads. The bigger road was a little busy but fine, and the views were spectacular. Credit due to komoot - it took us through the beautiful village of Montagna which we wouldn't have wanted to miss (despite cobbles!). Once on the valley bottom, we picked up the Adige bike path which is very flat indeed. We ignored komoot which kept trying to take us onto roads.....but later realised that this might actually have been a better route, as the bike path does not assume a straight line!

Follow with caution.....see above.

It felt like a bit of a slog, as our longest day for absolutely ages. But we finally made it to Trento, where we stayed at Ostello Giovanne Europa. It's pretty good in that it's cheap, clean etc, but no kitchen and very little atmosphere. Good location for exploring Trento though. We liked Gigi's caffe for coffee and croissants in the morning!
