Pivka Jama to Ljubljana

Monday July 30, 2018, 37 miles (59 km) - Total so far: 5,225 miles

(8,409 km)

We know we're not fast in the mornings, but we were blown away by our dutch neighbours who were on their bikes well before 7.30am. That said, we did still have a record-breaking early departure for our European leg at least! 8.44am we were on our way, 8.45am Komoot had put us on a horrible gravel road, 8.46am I was having a tantrum ;)

Once off the horrible gravel, the route was pretty good. A bit of up but a lot of down, much of it on lovely tarmac with sweeping hairpins. Some beautiful riding through typical Slovenian meadows, resplendent with wildflowers and alive with insects. The final chunk from Vrhnika to Ljubljana is a bit dull, and the cycle path (which is a national route, the D-1) comes and goes, with large sections of gravel...so that was less fun, but still ok.

We're staying at the Ljubljana resort, which is massive, but fine (edit: until you coincide with the pool party...check their Facebook page!) We have some nice British neighbours who gave us digestive biscuits! We'd shopped at Hofer (Austrian Aldi) on the way in, but there's also a Tus less than a kilometre away. Now for two days off, hooray!

Some flat at last.
