Bologna to Ferrara
Sunday July 15, 2018, 35 miles (57 km) - Total so far: 4,824 miles

Bologna is a lovely city. We had a day to explore a little bit, then it was time to get on the bikes. Boy, was it tough dragging ourselves back into the cycling routine!! A fairly easy ride that we made into a mammoth task. It's soooo hot here in comparison with Australia, we did suffer somewhat, and we've been bitten to death by the voracious Italian mozzies. Nevertheless, we managed to appreciate Italy a little bit on the way! Not a spectacular area, but very pleasant, and are hearts are so happy to be back in characterful Europe.
I'd been fretting about route planning before we arrived, and feeling frustrated about how difficult it is to find bike paths even when you know they exist. Ed is sick of my craziness, so has taken control of all things route planning! As a result, we have treated ourselves to the worldwide coverage with Komoot. £23 but hopefully well spent, based on reviews and accounts from others. Early days but we spent the majority of the day on lovely bike paths, so so far so good!
As with Bologna, there's only one campsite in Ferrara. Fortunately it's a lot cheaper at 20.50 euros for two of us. Simple but good facilities, and a secure storage room for the bikes if they'd like a cosy night.
