Temerloh to Bahau
Sunday February 4, 2018, 58 miles (94 km) - Total so far: 3,654 miles
(5,880 km)
Today started well, with a quiet road and lovely views of the impressive river Pahang. Once we reached a couple of largish towns, things became a lot busier and the road surface deteriorated to a ridiculous level. This was the first time I've really wished I had a different bike!
We'd marked a couple of vegetarian restaurants on google maps (great that searching for 'vegetarian' works in Malaysia!). The first, In Vege in Teriang, was closed......in fact a lot of places were closed today (it's Sunday). The second, a food stall inside a food court in Kemayan, was a bit hard to find but was OPEN! We had a wonderful experience meeting a group of incredibly kind and generous ladies. Not only were we fed by the food stall itself, but then one of the other ladies whipped up a bonus roti canai (the best so far) for us and wouldn't take a penny for it. Wonderful! They loved us, we loved them, everyone's day was made. One lady spoke pretty good English which was the icing on the cake. If you're passing, as I said it's marked on google, and I'm also in the process of adding it to Happy Cow.
The rest of the ride went really quickly after all that! It's fairly undulating which felt like hard work by the 90km mark. The road was much better after Kemayan, but there are still some dodgy patches. There are lots of palm plantations, but you can also see into the hills which is pretty nice.
We are staying at the Kiara Inn hotel in Bahau. 89RM for a large room - much nicer than we need really. And the bikes are in the room with us, at the suggestion of the receptionist! Dinner was just around the corner at Oli Mohammed - excellent roti / dosa and nasi goreng.
