Jerantut to Temerloh: via Mentakab for lunch

Saturday February 3, 2018, 45 miles (72 km) - Total so far: 3,595 miles

(5,786 km)

Today's ride wasn't very exciting, but it wasn't very strenuous either. Route 98 is fairly busy, but there's a decent shoulder for most of it (albeit with the usual patchy surface! As we approached the junction with route 87, the traffic became heavier and heavier and eventually jammed. Turns out there is a temporary bridge over the river while a new one is being built. Always fun (alarming?) to see construction in action around here..... ;)

We took a detour to Mentakab as Happy Cow promised a vegetarian restaurant. It was a worthy trip - nice place with a huge selection of tasty buffet dishes to choose from! We stuffed our faces for a few quid. It's here if you'd like to do the same: http://www.happycow.net/reviews.php?id=66334

The detour only added 10km to the ride, so we were in Temerloh in good time. We're staying at the Q Hotel which is pretty good - decent double room for 78RM. The owners are nice too and insisted we brought the bikes inside without us even asking.

We had dinner at one of the food stalls that sets up outside the hotel. Excellent nasi goreng, sayur campur and iced tea - the stall nearest the main road.

We were going to ride for 2 more days and then catch a train from Gemas. However, the idea of cycling the length of Malaysia was too appealling, and David Lomax's account on here has encouraged us! 4 more longish days and we should get to Singapore as planned anyway!
