Hue to Lang Co

Sunday November 19, 2017, 56 miles (90 km) - Total so far: 2,000 miles

(3,219 km)

A brilliant day today.

We started by trying to go back to yesterday's Bun Chay stalls, but they had disappeared (not sure if they are there on Saturdays only, or if its something to do with people eating veggie food on certain days of the month). We grabbed four Banh Mi to take on our ride, then headed back to the veggie restaurant that we'd spotted - which is actually inside the Park View hotel. Don't let that put you off - the food was excellent!! The rice porridge was a highlight.

We then had a great ride, despite our first puncture (due to a split tyre, caused by riding in a 'groove' in the road a few weeks ago). We retraced our steps out of the city and joined the 10A - which is a much smaller road than it sounds, but mostly in pretty good condition. Nice riding through villages and agricultural land. We crossed over a bridge onto a long island, where we joined the 49B - bigger, but being resurfaced in places. Once we crossed back onto the mainland again the road was teeny tiny and in terrible condition - it looks like they might see a fair bit of flooding. Super scenic though. Over the pass and onto the 1....a brief stint was plenty, so we took the long route to Lang Co which looks like it follows the coast, but you don't see much! Very pleasant though with lots of trees and little traffic.

Lang Co is as uninspiring as expected..... However, the Mai Nga hotel is pretty nice. Much more expensive than we usually go for (450,000) but the room is HUGE and really comfortable, and we have a BATH. Very quiet too (karaoke is advertised, but I am not sure there are any other guests - fingers crossed). Given how cheap our breakfast and lunch were, plus the fact that we just ate fried rice for 20,000 each, we feel justified in this little piece of luxury!

Hai Van pass tomorrow - probably in the rain, boo.

Crossing back onto the mainland.
