Sierck-les-bains to Alzingen
Monday October 8, 2018, 24 miles (38 km) - Total so far: 6,684 miles
(10,756 km)
We're still feeling the effects of our 97.5 km ride a couple of days ago! However, country number 15 was a real boost. We backtracked a short way and then it was over the Moselle to Schengen and LUXEMBOURG.
No Eurovelo signage here, and not brilliant signage full stop. I think we were probably following the 'SaarLorLux' route, but we didn't know this for sure, so followed our GPS track...and saw a lot of signs for that route, but not at all of the turnings. It's worth looking into though, if you're trying to follow EV5. Have to say, the info from the EV5 app is minimal - it clearly tells you which route to follow in Switzerland (as there are no EV5 signs) but not elsewhere.
Aside from all of that, it was a pretty ride. We climbed up away from the Moselle Valley, and then up, down, up, down.....but it did mean great views. We feel fortunate to be here for the beautiful autumn colours! We also found lots of picnic tables which was very welcome - we usually find them just after we've sat on the floor to have our lunch......
Soon enough we were at the campsite in Alzingen, a suburb of Luxembourg city. Just 18 euros for the two of us, and it has lovely facilities (albeit bound by a lot of rules!). Day off tomorrow to explore Luxembourg city, do washing etc.....and for some serious planning. The end really feels in sight now and I'm impatient to know how long it's going to take!!
