The day started well with lovely riding on quiet roads through pretty countryside. I still can’t get over how green and lush Slovenia is, and it’s absolutely dropping with produce. There was a short climb early on, and then a longer one up to Stanjel. Both were very manageable for these unfit cyclists hauling around 40kg…..so they can’t have been too challenging!

We had detoured to Stanjel after seeing it listed as a ‘must see’ destination, but were underwhelmed. It’s nice enough….but I wouldn’t go out of your way! It didn’t help that we couldn’t get back to the bikes after our walk due to the spiral configuration of the streets, or that a street vendor tried to charge us 2 euros for 2 peaches, OR that the komoot route out was very steep gravel! So maybe don’t have too much faith in our opinion ;)

We perked up a bit on the sweeping descent towards Vipava. We grabbed some provisions in the town, including beer….not realising that the approach to the campsite was incredibly steep and long! I walked most of it and even Ed pushed his bike some of the way. Two young guys arrived on bikes later, looking far fresher than we did so maybe it wasn’t so bad!!

Kamp Tura is one of my favourite campsites so far. The pitches are on slightly higgeldy-piggeldy terraces amongst the trees, with cars parked elsewhere. And the lady who runs it is completely lovely, and an absolute force. We also camped without the fly for the first time, which was actually really nice - much more air. It’s just a small place but the facilities are good (not many showers though) and the bar is a nice place for just hanging out. Free wifi too.
