Eketahuna to Carterton
Wednesday March 21, 2018, 44 miles (70 km) - Total so far: 4,498 miles
(7,239 km)
The first part of today's ride was really up and down, which made me worry
that our 'easy' day may not be so easy! It did actually get a lot flatter,
downhill in fact, although ended up being quite a bit further than expected.
We kept bumping into Sophie which was quite funny! She rides considerably
faster than we do!

Beautiful riding once again, despite a drizzly morning. These last few days really have been wonderful - I think the cycling HAS been better, but also suspect we're started to get a bit more into New Zealand. It's been such a culture shock coming from 5 months in Asia - western culture is certainly not all that.....but we're getting used to it now!
Carterton is a nice little spot. The campground is great - all facilities and nice people, $32 for two people per night. We're staying tomorrow too in order to do a bit of wine tasting at the nearby vineyards!
So that's it for 'proper' touring for a while. We're heading to Wellington on the train, after which we'll take the boat to Picton, ride a short way to Tuamarina, then take buses South. Back on the bikes in a few weeks.....maybe.......!
