Ngaruawahia to Pirongia forest park

Today would have been an easy ride if the wine hadn't been quite so free flowing last night ;) We backtracked to buy supplies, then headed out of town. The road was mostly flat and not too busy. Once we'd turned off towards the forest park, there was very little traffic and the scenery improved steadily, along with altitude!

We'd highly recommend the detour to camp in the forest park. It's called Kaniwhaniwha campsite - 2.7km along the Nikau trail (easy, well-packed track). Lovely secluded spot with pit toilets and a stream for water - you can just about swim. We were there on a Friday night and had it all to ourselves!
