Trang to La Ngu
Wednesday January 17, 2018, 64 miles (104 km) - Total so far: 2,997
miles (4,824 km)
Today didn't quite go according to plan! We had located no less than three accommodation options in the small town of Thung Wa, roughly equidistant between Trang and Satun. However, the first place (Green House Hotel) looked extremely dodgy and run down so we didn't even check it out, and the other two didn't appear to exist! Note that there IS another resort about 4km before Thung Wa; I didn't look at very closely but it did look ok from a passing glance. We also saw a couple of those dodgy motels with curtains to hide your car....both also on the Trang side of Thung Wa....but then nothing else before La Ngu.
Thung Wa DOES have a 7-11 (with a water filter opposite), a Tesco Lotus, a market and a few restaurants. We stocked up and then had lunch at a lovely place just out the other side of the town, opposite the police station. The lady even spoke some English so ordering was no problem - there's actually a menu but it's in thai only. We enjoyed an excellent fried rice plus cold drinks for 100 baht in total, result! Some guys were having noodle soup which also looked good.
Then it was back on the bikes for another 25+km to La Ngu. We are staying at Baan Suan Punpaka resort (on maps.me) - fabulous room with breakfast included for 590 baht. We even have a small patio which we will be using to fire up the stove upon later!
Some quick comments about today's ride - the first bit is a little dull, and the road is a bit on the noisy side. However, after around 30km things get a lot quieter and more scenic, with karsts starting to come into view. The road surface is mostly great - we went through a long patch of road-widening but it wasn't a problem, and presumably it will be better to ride on once it's finished!
