Surat Thani to Krabi: Another bus and bike storage

Tuesday January 2, 2018, 13 miles (21 km) - Total so far: 2,847 miles

(4,582 km)

As I am still under the weather, we decided to brave another bus rather than cycling 160km to Krabi. Online accounts contain all sorts of horror stories, but it was fine!

We cycled into Surat Thani itself (about 15km) and headed to the bus station (no.2). The Krabi bus was there waiting, and the driver came over to us immediately. He charged us 150 baht each plus 150 baht for each bike - the latter was possibly a bit steep but hey ho, we would have paid 250 baht each for the ticket with another company anyway. The bikes basically had their own luggage compartment which was great.

The journey itself was fine too - the bus doesn't go a particularly direct route as it picks people up the whole way, but it still only took us 3.5 hours. It did get very busy at times, so it's worth getting there a bit early to make sure you get a seat. It drops off 4km outside Krabi itself, but that's no problem for people with bicycles :)

We stayed at K Guesthouse which is absolutely lovely, and lets you put your bike inside. 450 baht for a big, beautiful double room. There's quite a bit of road noise but we slept through it all!

We have now moved to Sleep Easy Hostel, as our friend arrives tomorrow. It seems quite expensive at £9 each per night, but it is really nice. 4 person dorm with aircon - really comfy, generous bunks, lockers, loads of space. The communal area is really welcoming, with free drinks and a very friendly cat! Not to mention to similarly friendly staff :)

We are here for a few nights before we head off on an island adventure. The hostel has offered to store our bikes and excess bags for 100 baht per day which is brilliant - worth noting if you're planning similar!

That's all from us until we get back on our trusty steeds on 15th Jan, and start pedalling towards Malaysia!
