Phnom Penh to Prey Veng

Friday December 15, 2017, 59 miles (95 km) - Total so far: 2,618 miles

(4,214 km)

A good ride today. Getting out of the city at 6.30am was much easier than getting in in the middle of the day! We headed straight for Highway 1, which was busy but fine, as it's very wide with a good shoulder. There are a lot of rumble strips which get quite annoying, but other than that it's decent cycling. The scenery improves the further you get from Phnom Penh,

The bridge over the Mekong is pretty cool (very reminiscent of the Delta). You then have to do a big loop to get on highway 11, where things are far quieter. There are still some trucks, and they are doing 'something' to the road....there are already some patches where you have to take a short, bumpy diversion. That said, it's still a good road to ride at the moment.

Prey Veng is pretty pleasant (aside from the usual Cambodia rubbish problem). We are staying at the Navy Guesthouse - big room with fan and cold shower for $6. Three pet geckos and some gecko poo....fingers crossed for no cockroaches.

We had lunch at Mittaheap restaurant (at the GH of the same name) - big portions for not much money, English menu and English-speaking owner. Then we chilled out (literally - the aircon was freezing) at Daily Coffee - a nice spot.

Pic to follow.
