Hoi An back to Danang

Saturday November 25, 2017, 21 miles (34 km) - Total so far: 2,134 miles

(3,434 km)

We tried to take a different route for the return journey, but were thwarted by some roadworks. The coastal road (which had been very busy on our previous meeting) was actually fine, and we were ready for the city traffic this time! We checked into the Rosa Hotel, which is only 250,000 dong for a lovely, new- looking room. And we can put the bikes in the lobby :)

We headed straight to the railway station to sort out our tickets to Ho Chi Minh City on Monday (the day after tomorrow). We'd checked availability in advance on the Vietnam Railways website, so we knew exactly what we wanted, which made the transaction very straightforward. In theory, you can book the ticket online and pay at the station, but we couldn't get that to work. We also popped into the freight office where we were delighted to find someone who spoke English. He instructed us to take our bikes there at 7am on Monday, so that they would arrive in HCMC on Tuesday morning. Sounds good, but we shall see! He quoted 170,000 dong per bike....again, we shall see!

Lunch was a challenge as the two veggie places I'd found on Happy Cow were either closed or non-existent. Fortunately, Ed has a data SIM so we consulted google - so handy being able to search for 'Quan Chay'! Google saved the day and we had an excellent lunch.

We then paid a visit to a small 'Vinmart' supermarket which, it turns out, is like 7-Eleven BUT BETTER!! They sell all manner of delights including veggie noodles, peanut butter, oats, yogurts and haribo. There are tons of branches in Danang - not sure if it's a local thing but look out for them! The Rosa Hotel offers kettles so we had instant noodles plus snacks for dinner (as it was already 4pm by the time we got back).

The beach in Danang is quite something, if not really our cup of tea.
