Dong Ha to Hue
Friday November 17, 2017, 54 miles (87 km) - Total so far: 1,944 miles
(3,129 km)
A beautiful ride today. Sunshine helped, although our skin didn't like it much!
We headed out of Dong Ha on highway 1, which we both agreed was fine. I am not sure I'd want to ride on it all day as it's quite noisy (mostly because of the honking!) but it felt safe enough. We turned off at Quang Tri, onto the QL49 which we pretty much followed all the way to Hue. I am not sure if it's just the time of year, but it was a beautiful water world, with flooded paddy fields on either side pretty much the whole way. The road is pretty quiet and the locals were friendly of course!
Riding into Hue is a different story of course, but nothing too unusual. There are some huge 'roundabouts' that are more than a little terrifying on a bicycle though!
We're staying at the Thanh An guesthouse which is clean, cheap and exceptionally friendly. It's away from the main tourist centre and also down a small alley, meaning it's quiet, and (hopefully!) relatively safe for our bikes. 160,000 VND for a double room, ensuite, aircon....it's small and fairly basic, but perfect for us!
We had lunch at Nook - excellent burgers
Dinner was at Madame Thu - excellent small vietnamese dishes with several
veggie options.
Hue is huge and happening - not really what I was expecting! Looking forward to seeing a bit more tomorrow.
