Chiang Dao to Phrao: and important info about entering Laos at Muang
Ngeun!!
Sunday October 8, 2017, 27 miles (44 km) - Total so far: 663 miles
(1,066 km)
The relief of another easy day. It was a bit wet though!
The 107 was pretty quiet today, but it was still great to turn onto the more rural 1150. Nice cycling amongst karst cliffs and extensive forest. Phrao is a small town with not a huge amount happening, but the location - in a typical flat Thai valley with paddy fields, plus mountains all around - is spectacular.
Lunch was at Cafe Lum Lum - pretty average but did the job, the drinks were
great. Nice spot to relax for a bit, very friendly.
Dinner was self catered - pasta with veg and tofu cooked (or juggled?) on the
MSR!
We stayed at Poo guesthouse, which was very pink, but good. Clean, comfy
bungalows for 350 baht - can't complain.
Incidentally, a chance encounter with a Norwegian Expat in the cafe gave us some important information. You can't take bikes into Laos at the Muang Ngeun border crossing Not sure if folk on here are aware as I can't find anything on the forum. I didn't really believe the guy when he was telling us to check, but it's on Thorntree and other forums. No one seems quite sure why!
I guess we're going to Huay Xai after all :)
