Mae Sariang to Mae La Noi

Friday September 29, 2017, 20 miles (32 km) - Total so far: 400 miles

(645 km)

After the brutal 100K from Hot to Mae Sariang, we were keen to break up the 100K to Khun Yuam. The only obvious option is to stay at Mae La Noi, which isn't really far enough, but better than nothing! And what a treat it is - a beautiful spot.

We are staying at Flying Bird guesthouse. 500 baht for a huge aircon room with a great view across the valley. It's very thai, ie a bit on the shabby side and they're playing some random music*, but pretty good! The shower is great. We struggled at first as neither of the ladies spoke English, but we got there in the end....and then the young person arrived and spoke with us in perfect English - amazing. Good wifi too.
*random music turned into much merriment - Flying Bird seems to be the centre of the Friday night action in Mae La Noi so possibly best avoided if you want an early start! It was fairly quiet by 11.

We had lunch at this place: https://goo.gl/maps/WM6ZnxTyjPD2
Chosen because the google reviews clearly showed 'classic' thai dishes so I thought they might be able to rustle up something via our knowledge of a few dishes. It worked out even better - we met a teacher who spoke excellent English, AND the restaurant actually has an English menu. I think the owner spoke a tiny bit too. So it's a great option, and the food was great - 100 baht for 2 dishes and drinks.

We've just had cold drinks and ice cream at Jango Coffee, another nice spot. There's a 7-eleven (oh the friendly stripes!!) and we're going to try the more faring-friendly restaurant at Herntai resort tonight.

A good day, in preparation for a taxing 67K tomorrow.

Pretty views in Mae La Noi
