If you are\nfollowing this route, be aware that it's only an hourly service.....on the\nhour from the Gersau side. We were not aware and arrived at 10.01.....this\nbeing Switzerland, of course it was well on its way by then!! We treated\nourselves to a (rubbish) £4 coffee at the neighbouring hotel and used their\nwifi for an hour.
\n
The crossing is 8CHF but it's so lovely, we'd say it's worth it. We have been\nlucky to have perfect conditions during our time around Lake Lucerne. It\nreally is very beautiful, despite the road noise which I may have mentioned ;)
\n
Once on the other side, we faffed around buying lunch at spar so didn't really\nget going properly until nearly 12. This is always a mistake for me - somehow\nit feels like I've been cycling all day even when I've only just started!\nStill, the route was lovely and much quieter than yesterday. Beautiful views\nfor most of the day.
\n
Arriving in Lucerne itself is a bit of a culture shock as there are tourists\nswarming all over it. It's pretty but almost too pretty....like a more over-\nthe-top Ljubljana. We took a couple of photos and hastily continued on our\nway!
\n
We stopped to find a loo in very pretty Sempach - not sure I've mentioned how\nhappy we are that Switzerland has public toilets!!!?? Things get a little\nbusier as you arrive at Sursee (the lake) - the road carries fast moving\ntraffic and there isn't much bike lane. It was ok though. Bike lanes start\nagain in Sursee (the town) which was all very busy indeed, but that might have\nbeen the time of day. There's a Lidl, which always gains a place points in our\nreckoning!! And an Aldi, but we are less impressed with those around here than\nLidl.
\n
There's only one campsite and it's pretty good (nest to a road of course but\nset back enough that it's not bothering even me). Good enough for us to stay\nfor two nights, and it's a steal at 21CHF. There's a 'campers room' with two\ngas rings and loads of pots and pans, a fridge, benches to sit at and a TV. We\nused it both nights to save our fuel (and to avoid the rain on day 2!). Ther\nare other covered areas too, but there doesn't seem to be a washing machine\n(maybe we didn't ask the right questions). The wifi isn't included but at 4CHF\nper day, when the campsite is so cheap, it didn't seem too bad really. It also\nworks, which is not always the case with the free offering!
\n
One more night in Switzerland....it's lovely here but it IS expensive, and we\ndo miss being able to treat ourselves to coffees and wine!
\n
<span\n      class=\"gatsby-resp-image-wrapper\"\n      style=\"position: relative; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;  max-width: 800px;\"\n    >\n      <a\n    class=\"gatsby-resp-image-link\"\n    href=\"/static/ee4c61afe531b2cbc150ac66ce5e24f9/a2510/DD5DE249-010F-476B-8CB7-3820E09E1272.jpg\"\n    style=\"display: block\"\n    target=\"_blank\"\n    rel=\"noopener\"\n  >\n    <span\n    class=\"gatsby-resp-image-background-image\"\n    style=\"padding-bottom: 100%; position: relative; bottom: 0; left: 0; background-image: url('data:image/jpeg;base64,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'); background-size: cover; display: block;\"\n  >\n  <img\n        class=\"gatsby-resp-image-image\"\n        alt=\"On the ferry across Lake Lucerne. 5 passengers, 1 car and 3 bikes.\"\n        title=\"On the ferry across Lake Lucerne. 5 passengers, 1 car and 3 bikes.\"\n        src=\"/static/ee4c61afe531b2cbc150ac66ce5e24f9/4b190/DD5DE249-010F-476B-8CB7-3820E09E1272.jpg\"\n        srcset=\"/static/ee4c61afe531b2cbc150ac66ce5e24f9/e07e9/DD5DE249-010F-476B-8CB7-3820E09E1272.jpg 200w,\n/static/ee4c61afe531b2cbc150ac66ce5e24f9/066f9/DD5DE249-010F-476B-8CB7-3820E09E1272.jpg 400w,\n/static/ee4c61afe531b2cbc150ac66ce5e24f9/4b190/DD5DE249-010F-476B-8CB7-3820E09E1272.jpg 800w,\n/static/ee4c61afe531b2cbc150ac66ce5e24f9/a2510/DD5DE249-010F-476B-8CB7-3820E09E1272.jpg 1000w\"\n        sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\n        style=\"width:100%;height:100%;margin:0;vertical-align:middle;position:absolute;top:0;left:0;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n      />\n  \n
","frontmatter":{"date":null,"path":"/journal/222","title":""}}},"pageContext":{}}}
