I still can’t get over how green and lush Slovenia is, and it’s\nabsolutely dropping with produce. There was a short climb early on, and then a\nlonger one up to Stanjel. Both were very manageable for these unfit cyclists\nhauling around 40kg…..so they can’t have been too challenging!
\n
We had detoured to Stanjel after seeing it listed as a ‘must see’ destination,\nbut were underwhelmed. It’s nice enough….but I wouldn’t go out of your way! It\ndidn’t help that we couldn’t get back to the bikes after our walk due to the\nspiral configuration of the streets, or that a street vendor tried to charge\nus 2 euros for 2 peaches, OR that the komoot route out was very steep gravel!\nSo maybe don’t have too much faith in our opinion ;)
\n
We perked up a bit on the sweeping descent towards Vipava. We grabbed some\nprovisions in the town, including beer….not realising that the approach to the\ncampsite was incredibly steep and long! I walked most of it and even Ed pushed\nhis bike some of the way. Two young guys arrived on bikes later, looking far\nfresher than we did so maybe it wasn’t so bad!!
\n
Kamp Tura is one of my favourite campsites so far. The pitches are on slightly\nhiggeldy-piggeldy terraces amongst the trees, with cars parked elsewhere. And\nthe lady who runs it is completely lovely, and an absolute force. We also\ncamped without the fly for the first time, which was actually really nice -\nmuch more air. It’s just a small place but the facilities are good (not many\nshowers though) and the bar is a nice place for just hanging out.
