Het Leen to Dunkerque
Saturday October 20, 2018, 64 miles (102 km) - Total so far: 7,106 miles
(11,435 km)
First 100km day since....Malaysia?!?! So very flat though. We mostly followed canals once again. It was quite fun to skirt Bruges - we've been before so didn't mind not going into the city, and we saw some very pretty streets as a reminder. We followed a komoot route once again to avoid any additional wiggles, and basically just had to keep going! I know this isn't a long ride to many people on here, but it still is to me, even after all this time.
It seemed to take forever to get to the French border. When we did, there was a noticeable dip in cycling provision....but that's really because Belgium is so amazing. There were still lots of bike lanes etc! Quick stop at Carrefour for provisions....and we were nearly there at last.
Our hearts sank when we arrived at Camping de la Licorne, and saw the sign saying they were closed for tents. Fortunately I went in and asked, thinking they might have a pod or something for us, as it was already getting dark and we were pretty shattered. Turns out they still let cyclists camp, hooray!! And for 9.50 euros too. Standard French municipal site, so don't expect a good/hot shower, but all fine other than that!!
