Solt to Meetshovenbos
Tuesday October 16, 2018, 58 miles (94 km) - Total so far: 6,931 miles
(11,154 km)
Today definitely wasn't as flat as we'd hoped! Nice riding but very wiggly following the node system. We stopped at one point to look at a map or a sign or something, and a friendly Belgian stopped to chat to us. He loved hearing about our adventure, as he'd also done some touring, including riding across the states. I didn't get his name, but I did give him our blog, so maybe he'll find this one day, hello if so!!
We also did a bit of a detour to find water too - I would be interested to know how other people get around this issue without buying bottles water?!?!?!? We found a tap marked on maps.me that turned out to be in a cemetery, for people to water the flowers on the graves. Maybe this is an untapped (sic) source?!
We finally arrived in Aarschot, which looks quite nice and was easy to navigate thanks to the nodes, and then headed on to the bivakzone as dusk started to threaten. The approach was quite gravelly but lovely through the woods.
The bivakzone itself was quite different - a big open space rather than nestling in the woods. It has a tent platform, a water pump (with odd-smelling water) and a pit toilet (with a light!!) at three corners of the large square, which is a bit odd. But fine! There was a lovely sunset and I liked having horses as neighbours :)
