Our friend James rode with us today - a real novelty and treat! We'd decided not to backtrack and thus took a rather long route back to the river Drau.

The ride down the valley to Hermagor is exceptionally scenic, and also very easy as it's downhill. We then turned onto the R3 cycleway along the Gail river - similarly stunning all the way. We definitely seem to have saved the prettiest bits of Austria til last!

We met Jo for lunch in Kötschach (more excellent Austrian dumplings!) and then had to carry the stodge up the day's big climb.....which was completely fine. It's fairly long, maybe 6km, but the steepest sections struggle to reach 10
