We took a day off yesterday to explore the Logar Valley, as Lonely Planet talked about it in such superlatives. It is indeed very nice..... We were astounded by the number of Slovenian cars up there, and relatively small number of cars from anywhere else - this seems to be the way in this area, which is quite the refreshing change. Not sure where all the people were either as the trail to the waterfall, which you might imagine would be a highlight, wasn't actually too busy! We'd recommend this side trip - be warned that it's quite a hill. BUT you do also get a lovely view of the valley from the entrance, ie while cycling past!
Back to today. It was no hardship to ride along the Savinja river gorge again
- it's some of the prettiest riding we've done in Europe so far. Nice quiet road, albeit not always very smooth! Although it's uphill all the way, things don't ramp up until after the Logar valley turn off. You then have around 8km, mostly at 100r more. It's pretty tough going but quiet, and with some lovely views. There's some respite after the border but don't be fooled - there's still a sharp uphill before you're (mostly) done for the day.
The main descent into Austria is probably steeper than the ascent, and the road isn't brilliant, but we've ridden far worse. Once in the valley, we road along the river for a long time, mostly going gradually down. There was another sharp climb (which felt really long, but probably wasn't!) as we got nearer to the campsite - I was pretty done in by this point.

We camped at 'Camping Sud' on the banks of the Klopeiner See. It's not cheap (31 euros for the two of us) and is a bit cramped, but the location is literally right on the lake. We were reliably told it was 27 degrees - wonderful!
