Upper Hutt to Martinborough: partially by train
Wednesday May 23, 2018, 14 miles (22 km) - Total so far: 4,677 miles
(7,527 km)
We took the train to Featherston. I'm still not 100ure on the condition of the Rimutaka incline. I've seen accounts on here of people managing it with touring bikes and road wheels, but it didn't sound too fun.....and we had A LOT of rain overnight, so train seemed best for us! Once again, the whole process was very easy.
The ride to Martinborough was also very straightforward, and on blissfully
quiet roads. I thought we were heading straight to the campsite but actually
we managed 3 wine tastings before that happened! Not actually recommended if
you haven't had your lunch...... Here's our route:

We're staying at the Top 10 holiday park, which isn't particularly budget (the most expensive accommodation we've had so far, in fact) but is a lovely spot with great facilities. And free wifi, a first for an NZ campsite I think! Means I can spend a lot of time obsessing about the weather before we head further south for a couple of days.
