Blenheim to Havelock

Sunday May 13, 2018, 26 miles (42 km) - Total so far: 4,559 miles (7,337

km)

Now that we have drunk our body weight in wine, it’s time to move on!

We took the Old Renwick road back to Renwick for variety. Good apart from the false-flat / headwind combination….. Then it’s SH6 all the way to Havelock. We did ride on a Sunday, but it was very quiet. We didn’t see a single truck. There’s a long, narrow bridge shortly after leaving Renwick, but we didn’t have any problems. It's a very pretty ride!

We’re staying at Havelock holiday park, which might have the cleanest facilities I’ve ever seen. We bagged ourselves an off-season rate ($51 per night) for a cabin, as it’s getting a bit chilly. They’re only $60 full price though and well worth it - really comfy, cosy, and pretty spacious. You even get your own fridge. The owner is super friendly too.

There isn’t a huge amount in Havelock, but it’s a pleasant spot for a couple of nights. If you’re feeling flush, I am sure the mailboat cruise is worth doing. We opted for the free activity of cycling up the hill to Cullen Point, and walking around the tracks up there for some great views of Kenepuru sound.
