Kep to Kampot
Sunday December 10, 2017, 15 miles (24 km) - Total so far: 2,458 miles
(3,955 km)
This hardly counts as a cycling day! We headed back to L'Epi d'Or for more amazing french bread and pastries - but no coffee as they were having a power cut.....
The main road to Kampot is ok, but not very inspiring, and did make me start worrying slightly about what cycling here is going to be like. We both much prefer cycling when we really appreciate the journey, rather than spend all the time counting kilometres to the destination. We shall see, I guess!
We headed straight to the Epic Arts cafe for lunch, as a friends in laws used to work there. It's a nice spot....but not cheap....so far, food in Cambodia doesn't seem cheap at all, but I guess we have been in touristy areas. We made a shortlist of guesthouses and checked out Manany first. No window but nice room....we checked out a couple of others but Manany was by far the nicest. Lovely people - the lady gave us homemade coconut jelly and free water while we waited for the room. And a locked cage for the bikes! We do have a window in our bathroom but even without that, the room is very pleasant. $8 for fan and cold shower.
We had lunch no.2 at Ecran noodles, which IS pretty cheap, and the homemade noodles and dumplings and different to anything else we've eaten. Dinner was at Simple Things veggie place - really wonderful, and we had WINE! That wasn't cheap either but it was worth it :)
