Long Xuyen to Chau Doc

Tuesday December 5, 2017, 37 miles (60 km) - Total so far: 2,357 miles

(3,793 km)

Great ride today - scenic and with lots of interest along the route (lots of school kids and LOTS of weddings!)

Most of the accounts I've read documenting this journey go up the QL91. I wasn't really keen on this, but also felt a bit nervous about blazing a remote trail, so settled for a happy medium! We set off along the 91, then nipped off on a tiny (bumpy) road along the river for a few Ks, before rejoining the traffic. At about the halfway mark, we took a ferry across to the other side of the river and picked up the DT951, which is a good road. We actually accidentally slipped onto an even smaller road for the last chunk, but it was also fine, so our route is a good one to follow: https://www.strava.com/activities/1302609446

Ed hasn't been feeling well today so we haven't seen much of Chau Doc at all. We will probably stay here tomorrow to, to make sure he's ok before our 100K ride to Ha Tien. We're staying at the Trung Nguyen hotel which is very nice (bikes in the lobby and breakfast included!) but 390,000 dong once again. I've lost my mojo with finding cheaper places (or maybe we're now in peak season!). Thanh Tinh veggie restaurant just metres away from the hotel is really excellent.

Pretty view - from the QL91!
