Danang to Ho Chi Minh city: Sleeper train (bikes go separately)
Monday November 27, 2017
We turned up at the station at 7am as instructed by the man in the freight office. A short form to fill in (they really only needed our name) and 170,000 dong per bike handed over, and that was that. We left them leaning up against a random wall, with no labels or anything.....needless to say we felt nervous!
We consoled ourselves with excellent coffees at Ezi Coffee and headed back to the hotel to get sorted. A few hours later, we took a taxi back to the station, and spent a couple of hours having lunch, drinking more coffee and buying banh mis for the journey.
The train was half an hour late, which really didn't seem too bad!! I wouldn't say it was a peaceful experience, with our room-mate insisting on playing videos on his phone without headphones, and then a lot of coming and going. The train was also very rocky - a TGV this ain't! But everything went smoothly and, with the help of earplugs, we did get a bit of sleep. It was actually pretty comfy.
