Pho Chau to Huong Khe
Friday November 10, 2017, 35 miles (56 km) - Total so far: 1,685 miles
(2,712 km)
Not a particularly scenic day, but we revelled in the newness of the experience. We stopped just before halfway for a nice coffee and friendly welcome at MOC coffee, but were in Huong Khe by lunchtime.
There are several hotels and we checked out a few options round the lake. We settled on Khach San Son Ha 2 - nice room with all basics for 250,000. The other Son Ha place was a lot less nice, and the woman was really grumpy. We also tried a huge place on the far side (possibly Hoang Ngoc, but there are two quite close together ) - it looks pretty flash from the outside and is clearly set up for large weddings. It felt a bit weird as it was empty, but the room was actually pretty nice and only 200,000 dong.
The town is hectic (I suspect this is the norm!) and we're definitely a novelty. We've managed two veggie lunches with the help of google translate. And also bought a data sim from Viettel which took about an hour! But it does seem to work!
